PLACE CARDS is Molo modo21 Blog’s column dedicated to those who are looking for ideas on where to go on vacation in Liguria.
Each time we feature two places: a facility (or business) related to the area and the nearest place of interest to visit in the area.
You don’t have to give up your hour of wellness just because you are far from home.
Il Riposo del Guerriero Rooms & Relax, gives you the opportunity to visit Genoa and Liguria in peace and quiet, starting from Carmine, a central area of the city and just a few minutes from Principe train station: and when you come back from your tour, you can still take a few moments for yourself and pamper yourself with a Shiatsu session or a sauna.
Maurizio, the manager of this guesthouse, will not only offer you his hospitality but also his knowledge of yoga and massage: ‘before we let you sleep, we let you relax’. Maurizio has created a place where you can regenerate and your stay in Genoa will turn into an opportunity to return home with a full load of energy, taking advantage of some peace and quiet.
The convenient location of Il Riposo del Guerriero Rooms & Relax gives you the chance to forget about your car and means of transport, so that you can enjoy the city and easily reach many of the city’s tourist attractions and monuments on foot: for example, the Acquario di Genova and the Porto Antico are less than a 10-minute walk away, as is Palazzo Ducale (where the city’s most important exhibitions are held). And if you don’t feel like walking, you can always take the metro: the nearby Darsena station is connected to the two railway stations of Brignole and Principe.

Don't miss in the area and surroundings
The Carmine neighbourhood and the crêuze that climb up to Genoa's most scenic spot
‘A little Montmatre’. This is how Maurizio describes his neighbourhood, the Carmine, a magical spot of Genoa hidden in the centre of the city, with its colourful houses, clothes hanging out, and its Art Nouveau indoor market. Over the years, the Carmine district has retained its village soul, with a characteristic tangle of crêuze (cobbled streets) and small squares that open up just behind the bustling Centro Storico. A perfect place to experience the most authentic daily life in Genoa.
The Carmine is also the ideal starting point for discovering the hilly area of the city, which is vertically developed with lifts and funicular railways. In fact, the Zecca-Righi funicular railway departs from here, connecting the centre of Genoa with the Righi hill, an obligatory stop for those who love hiking and nature, with various routes from the Parco Urbano delle Mura to the tour of the fortresses.
For less strenuous walks, you can go up from the Carmine towards the hilly district of Castelletto, where you can admire the city panorama from the Spianata (Belvedere Montaldo), which can also be reached by the nearby lifts: the Castelletto Ponente lift is very special, accessible from the gallery connecting Piazza Zecca with Piazza Portello, which takes you back in time with its Art Nouveau furnishings.
